Going Beyond the Business Card

Back in 2022, there was no business; it didn’t even have a name. It was simply a small group of professionals getting together after work to enjoy good conversation, support one another, and build genuine relationships.

No elevator pitches or stacks of business cards, no 8:00 a.m. Zooms and no pressure to impress; just a welcoming room, great people, and the belief that meaningful connections happen naturally.

One mixer turned into another, and then another. Our gatherings became more frequent, our community grew, and so did the opportunities. Local venues welcomed us, businesses wanted to collaborate, and sponsors came on board. We soon realized that we were creating something much bigger than a networking event. We were building a community.

Years later, we officially became a business. By then, the decision felt natural. It allowed us to take the support we had received from our community and turn it into something even greater; giving back through initiatives such as our Small Business Success Program, professional-attire drives, community partnerships, and opportunities that help local businesses and entrepreneurs grow.

Today, The Business Club, formerly known as Social Light Business Club of Central MA, is about much more than dinners, soirées, and themed parties. It is about showing up for one another. It means celebrating a member’s grand opening, sharing resources through our Business Circle because we genuinely want to see each other succeed, making trusted referrals, and creating collaborations that extend far beyond a single evening.

We are a traveling community of entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals, innovators, and local leaders who believe that relationships are the foundation of every great opportunity. By gathering at locally owned restaurants and venues, we are not only creating memorable experiences; we are also shining a light on the incredible small businesses that make our communities thrive.

At the end of the day, it is never just about the event. It is about the people you meet, the friendships you build, the ideas you share, and the community that stays with you long after the table has been cleared.

Whether you are ten days into your venture or celebrating ten years in business, you will always have a seat at our table. You do not need the perfect elevator pitch, a certain number of followers, or a corner office to belong here. You simply need to show up. Come as you are, introduce yourself, stay curious, cheer others on, and have fun.

Finding Your People; It Starts with Showing Up.

Michael Chernoch
Vice President

For much of my life, there were times when I felt lost or unsure of where I truly belonged. That is why being part of The Business Club means so much to me. It is not the sold-out events or packed rooms that make this community special; it is the feeling of belonging.

It is walking into a room where people know your name, celebrate your accomplishments, and genuinely want to see you succeed.

My background in human services has taught me that one of the most meaningful things we can offer another person is the feeling of being welcomed, valued, and important. That belief shapes the way I approach every event, conversation, and new connection.

Real relationships are not built through quick sales pitches or rushed introductions. They are built through trust, consistency, and taking the time to truly get to know one another.

Building The Business Club alongside Samuel has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Every event, conversation, and new member has taught me something I could never have learned from a textbook. This journey has shown me the power of community and what becomes possible when people choose collaboration over competition.

Whether you arrive with a friend or decide to come on your own, I hope you find what so many of us have found here: a welcoming community, meaningful connections, and a place where you can simply be yourself.

We cannot wait to welcome you.

Community has always come before commerce.

Samuel Nieves Jr.
Founder, CEO

I never imagined I would build a community of entrepreneurs, professionals, and local leaders. Looking back, however, bringing people together has always been at the heart of everything I do.

As a professionally trained dancer and national competitive champion, I learned discipline, teamwork, resilience, and the importance of showing up. At nineteen, I opened my first business; a dance studio. Was I ready? Absolutely not. But the experience taught me lessons no classroom could and sparked a passion for entrepreneurship that extended far beyond dance.

Managing a nightclub introduced me to hospitality and the art of creating memorable experiences, while my career in sales taught me how to build trust and lasting relationships. Still, something was missing. I wanted to be surrounded by people who embraced big ideas and asked, “How can we make that happen?”

So, I hosted a small mixer. Then another, followed by a dinner at a new restaurant and a Halloween party simply because it sounded fun. There was no formal business plan; only a desire to create the welcoming, supportive community I had been searching for.

That community became Social Light Business Club. As I grew as an entrepreneur, the club evolved alongside me. Today, that journey continues as The Business Club; a name that reflects our expanding vision, growing community, and exciting future.

While completing my business degree at Mount Wachusett Community College and serving as the 2026 Student Trustee and a Newman Civic Fellow, I have had the privilege of growing The Business Club alongside my own leadership journey.

What makes me proudest is not the events; it is the people. We have created a community that celebrates accomplishments, shares opportunities, supports one another, and proves that the strongest business relationships begin with genuine human connection.

I am excited for this next chapter and everything we will continue creating together.
